UConn redeems itself by closing out tight victory over UNH
After letting a third-period lead slip away in their last game versus the Wildcats, the Huskies made sure they didn't suffer the same fate on Thursday.

When UConn last played UNH back in November, Mike Cavanaugh’s side controlled the first 40 minutes and took a one-goal lead into the third period, only to allow two scores in the final six minutes en route to a 4-3 loss.
On Thursday, the Huskies found themselves in a nearly identical situation. They owned the first two periods and again led by one at the second intermission. This time, they made sure they didn’t suffer the same fate.
“We were in a very similar position the last time they were here. We talked about that in the locker room (during the second intermission), that we let them back in the game and lost to them last time,” Cavanaugh said.
UConn used a power play goal with 4:40 remaining and a pair of empty-netters to nab a much-needed 4-1 victory over UNH, which snapped a five-game winless skid and secured home ice in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East Playoffs.
“I was really happy with the way we played,” Cavanaugh said.
