After multiple games this season, UConn head coach Mike Cavanaugh pushed his team to remain on the front foot when ahead late instead of sitting back and trying to hold onto the lead. The Huskies might’ve overcorrected in that regard on Saturday.
After taking a 3-2 lead into the third period against UNH, UConn allowed two goals in the final six minutes en route to a 4-3 defeat. The Huskies weren’t undone by an overly passive approach, though. It was just the opposite.
“We were attacking too much and a little reckless,” Cavanaugh said. “We were giving up odd-man rush after odd-man rush in the third period. Usually when you're sitting back, that doesn't happen. You’re in your own zone the whole time.”
