After one season in Storrs, freshman goaltender Tommy Heaney will enter the transfer portal. Brad Elliott Scholssman of the Grand Forks Herald first reported the move.
A native of Oceanport, New Jersey, Heaney came to UConn as the third stringer but appeared in three high-stakes games. He made his first career start at then-No. 3 BU, played the third period in a 5-4 win over then-No. 2 BC and started the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off against Wisconsin.
While Heaney did well given the circumstances, he still finished with a 4.39 goals against average and .867 save percentage. He’s the third Husky to enter the transfer portal this offseason, joining defensemen Jack Pascucci and Bauer Swift.
The Huskies are now in search of a new third stringer. Elsewhere at the position, Tyler Muszelik will return for his senior season as the presumed starter while Kam Hendrickson is expected to join the team as an incoming freshman.
Jack Pascucci finds new home
After transferring from UConn last month, defenseman Jack Pascucci found a new home at Canisus, according to CHN’s Mike McMahon. A member of Atlantic Hockey, the Golden Griffiths went 12-23-2 last season.
Pascucci should thrive in the league, which is a step down from Hockey East. He proved himself to be a capable defensive defenseman with the Huskies, ranking in the top five percent of defensive categories last season per McMahon, but just couldn’t crack a strong group of blue liners. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
NHL Central Scouting rankings
Five players with UConn ties were included in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings that were released on Tuesday.
Among North American skaters, defenseman Anthony Allain-Samaké topped the group at No. 101, followed by forward William Schneid (176), defenseman Brendan Dunphy (194) and forward Kaden Shahan (208). Meanwhile, Kam Henrickson came in at No. 21 among North American goaltenders.
Shahan just finished his freshman season in Storrs, recording nine goals and five assists in 39 games. Allain-Samaké, Dunphy and Henrickson are all expected to arrive as freshmen this fall while Schneid is likely still a year or two out.
The 2025 NHL Draft will be held June 27-28 in Los Angeles.
