One thought on every member of UConn's roster

The new season is almost here. Students are back in Storrs, classes are underway and next week, UConn men’s hockey will officially kick off the preseason. It ended up being a busy summer for the Huskies with turnover on the coaching staff and Jake Richard’s surprise departure.

Now, the coaching staff and roster are set, which means attention can fully turn to the on-ice product. UConn finds itself in an interesting position. The Huskies are going through a transition with 10 new players on the roster, but expectations remain high with plenty of significant pieces back for another year.

Forwards

Joey Muldowney

After putting up 29 goals as a sophomore, Muldowney took a step back this past season. He finished with 17 goals — which is certainly nothing to scoff at, especially considering he battled injuries and missed time due to the Spengler Cup. UConn will count on Muldowney more than ever before this season, especially with Richard off to the pros.

Ethan Gardula

Although not a flashy player, Gardula has quietly amassed the second-most career points on the roster with 35, trailing only Muldowney. He’s steady and reliable.

Kaden Shahan

In a 10-game stretch from Nov. 15 to Jan. 10 this past season, Shahan put up 12 points on six goals and six assists. UConn will need that version of the junior from start-to-finish to replace the production lost from the departures of Richard and Ryan Tattle.
