UConn overcomes slow start to claim series sweep over LIU

The Huskies didn't put together their best effort of the season on Saturday but they still came away with an important victory.

While UConn closed out 2025 in style with a dominant 4-1 win over LIU on Wednesday, it didn’t start the new year quite so well. On the return trip to Long Island, the Huskies struggled out of the gates and were lucky not to fall behind. The Sharks dominated possession in the early going and kept the puck in their offensive zone for much of the first period.

“I just don't think we played to our potential in the first period. We were cheating a little bit. We weren't reloading like we do. We didn't get pucks to the net as much as I thought we could,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said postgame.

“Some players got off-script,” Alexandre Blais added. “We didn't start how we wanted to.”
