UConn men’s hockey’s top line all earned All-Hockey East honors on Friday, marking the second time the program has earned three such selections in a single season. Joey Muldowney and Hudson Schandor were each named second team all-stars while Jake Richard landed on the third team.

Schandor also received Hockey East’s Best Defensive Forward Award and the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award earlier this week. The fifth-year forward’s 25 assists and 33 points rank first and second in the league this season — which somehow isn’t enough to earn a first team selection. Still, Schandor is in the midst of a historic campaign in which he set the Huskies’ single season Division I record with 30 assists overall and became the program’s career Hockey East Era leader in assists (88) and points (124).

As for Muldowney, he’s also made history by becoming UConn’s first 20-goal scorer in the Hockey East Era with 22 during the regular season. In conference play, he ranks fourth with 15 goals and seventh with 26 points. Muldowney also recorded a four-goal effort at Maine back in January.

The pair join Max Letunov (2015-16, 2016-17), Wyatt Newpower (2019-20), Jachym Kondelik (2021-22) and Ryan Tverberg (2022-23) as Hockey East Second Team All-Stars from UConn.

As for Richard, he put up 10 goals and 15 assists in league play despite missing five games due to injury. He’s converted on the power play seven times, which is tied with BU’s Cole Eiserman for most in Hockey East. With Richard, Schandor and Muldowney, the Huskies are tied with BC and BU for the most point-per-game players in the league with three apiece.

Richard is UConn’s fifth third team selection along with Tage Thompson (2016-17), Karl El-Mir (2018-19), Kondelik (2020-21) and Tomas Vomacka (2020-21). The only other time the Huskies landed three all-league picks was in 2020-21 with Kondelik and Vomacka on the third team along with Jonny Evans on the first team.

Earlier in the week, Callum Tung landed on the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. The honors may not be done for the Huskies, either. The league will announce finalists for player, rookie and coach of the year on Monday. Mike Cavanaugh should be a candidate — if not the favorite — for the latter award considering UConn’s stunning turnaround this season.

The Huskies will begin the postseason tonight in the Hockey East Quarterfinals against 5-seed Providence. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET at Toscano Family Ice Forum and on NESN.
