UConn men’s hockey forward Jake Veilleux stepped away from hockey and left the program over the offseason to focus on school and life after hockey, the UConn Hockey Hub learned. He was set to enter his senior year with the Huskies.

A native of South Windsor, Veilleux established himself as an ultra-steady fourth liner with the Huskies. Though he totaled just four goals and four assists in 59 career games, he took just a single penalty in his collegiate career.

“He’s a very disciplined, smart hockey player,” Cavanaugh said about Veilleux back in January. “He’s a guy that you can trust. You know what you’re going to get from him every shift when he’s on the ice.”

This past season, Veilleux appeared in just 11 games after a knee injury kept him out for the entire first half.

With Veilleux gone, UConn doesn’t have a single true senior on the roster. Every member of the Huskies’ 2021 recruiting class has departed for various reasons: Aidan Metcalfe also stepped away to focus on academics, Logan Terness and Sasha Teleguine both transferred out while Chase Bradley signed an NHL deal with the Colorado Avalanche over the summer.
