Former UConn forward Chase Bradley signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Colorado Avalanche, officially ending his collegiate career. PuckPedia reported the deal on Monday.
A seventh round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in 2020, Bradley became a free agent this summer. He turned pro after three strong seasons with the Huskies, totaling 25 goals and 26 assists for 51 points in 95 career games. Bradley was UConn’s best player this past season, putting up 11 goals and 11 assists while also bringing a physical edge as a 200-foot forward.
Even though Bradley had another year of college eligibility remaining, the Huskies expected him to turn pro this summer. The two sides agreed that he was ready for the next level, plus Bradley wanted to focus solely on hockey.
The 5-11 forward out of St. Louis now has a chance to be the next UConn player to reach the NHL and the seventh overall. While it may be tough for him to make the Avalanche out of training camp, his combination of speed, skill and physicality should allow him to plug in anywhere in the lineup. That could help him get an early call-up when injuries inevitably strike.
With Bradley now gone, UConn’s roster features 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders. The Huskies are still searching for a couple more additions up top — likely freshmen who don’t have a spot on a college team this fall.
