UConn men’s hockey lost a forward over the winter break after sophomore Oliver Flynn departed for Amherst College. While the Mammoths announced the news on Dec. 23, his absence first came to light on Saturday when the Huskies beat Harvard, 7-3.
A native of Wolcott, Connecticut, Flynn joined UConn as part of the 2023 recruiting class. He appeared in 31 games with the Huskies, recording two goals and one assist. Flynn suited up in UConn’s first seven contests this season but lost his spot when Filip Sitar returned from his suspension and fell behind Mike Murtagh on the depth chart.
As a reserve forward who hadn’t dressed since Nov. 8, Flynn transferred to Amherst after the fall semester to focus on academics. A program source said he left on good terms and there were no hard feelings.
With Flynn gone, UConn will have just 14 forwards available for the rest of the season, which doesn’t leave much depth if injuries strike. The Huskies dressed all 13 healthy skaters against Harvard after Hugh Larkin missed out with a lower body injury.
