Joey Muldowney's injury could leave UConn short on forwards

If Muldowney can't play on Saturday, the Huskies won't have enough healthy forwards to fill out the lineup.

Not much is going right for UConn’s offense at the moment. In a 4-1 loss to Providence on Friday night, the Huskies were held to just one goal for the third time in their last four games. It wasn’t for a lack of chances, racking up 38 shots — a whopping 25 of which came inside the house — and 66 attempts overall.

The task could become even more difficult going forward. Reigning All-American and current goal-scoring leader Joey Muldowney left Friday’s loss in the third period with an upper body injury and didn’t return. His status going forward is uncertain.

“I don't know,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said about Muldowney postgame. “I'll have to go down and see.”

If the sophomore has to miss Saturday’s rematch or any extended time beyond that, UConn wouldn’t just be without its best lamp-lighter, it wouldn’t have enough healthy forwards to fill out the lineup.
