Why UConn never panicked in comeback victory over Northeastern: 'This was a process-based win'

Despite going down by three, the Huskies stuck to their game plan and rode it all the way to a 4-3 OTW.

Despite notching a 4-2 win over Northeastern on Friday night, UConn men’s hockey wasn’t happy with itself. The Huskies came out on top but they didn’t like the way in which they earned the victory.

“We really try to not focus on the result as much as how we play and the process we play to,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh explained. “Last night, I thought we won the game but we cheated in a lot of areas. I didn't think it was as well as we could play.”

So on Saturday, UConn vowed to focus on its game and not worry about the score — a mindset that was immediately tested. While the Huskies put together a solid first period, they found themselves down 2-0 thanks to a bad bounce and a power play goal.

Still, UConn stuck with it.
