What to make of UConn's goalies through three weekends: 'It's still a very small sample'
Kam Hendrickson has posted significant better numbers than Veeti Louhivaara so far. Will the Huskies continue rotating their netminders?
UConn men’s hockey coach Mike Cavanaugh didn’t reveal how he plans to deploy his goaltenders this weekend at Merrimack, but he did provide some insight into his thinking.
Through three weekends, Kam Hendrickson and Veeti Louhivaara have split the starts. Hendrickson gets the nod in openers while Louhivaara follows on Saturdays.
So far, the gap between the two is wide.
Hendrickson is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 2.26 goals against average and a .943 save percentage — all while facing 40.7 shots per game. Louhivaara, meanwhile, is winless in three appearances along with a 4.04 goals against average and a .871 save percentage. Despite facing 29 fewer shots than Hendrickson, Louhivaara has allowed five more goals. The freshman particularly struggled in his most recent outing, a 6-3 loss at BU.
Despite the disparity between the two netminders so far, Cavanaugh cautioned against overreacting to just nine periods of action.
