When UConn men’s hockey announced its incoming transfer class, it included an unexpected member: Western Michigan forward Hugh Larkin.
He spent the first four years of his collegiate career with the Broncos where he collected 15 goals and 14 assists across 113 games. His best season came as a junior in 2022-23 when he put up six goals and eight assists. Listed at 6-2, 205 pounds out of Livonia, Michigan, Larkin has played in the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons.
The Huskies aren’t counting on him to lead a line but hope he can make an impact with secondary scoring, size and experience. That’s worked out for them in the past with the likes of Kevin O’Neil and Justin Pearson.
Larkin joins Princeton defenseman Nick Carabin and UNH goalie Tyler Muszelik as UConn’s other transfer additions. While the Huskies are set on defense and between the pipes, they still have just 15 forwards at the moment. More moves are coming at that position.
