UConn women’s hockey will face the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 14 at Ohio State Rink in Columbus, Ohio. The Huskies earned Hockey East’s automatic bid by defeating Northeastern in the league tournament final on Saturday.

Minnesota-Duluth finished fourth in the WCHA with a 20-13-4 overall record and received the last at-large bid into the tournament as the eighth team in Pairwise. This is the Bulldogs’ fourth consecutive tournament appearance and 15th overall. They’ve won five national championships in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, and 2010.

The winner of the first-round matchup will face No. 1 overall seed Ohio State in the regional final on Saturday, Mar. 16. The Frozen Four will be held at UNH’s Whittemore Center in Durham, New Hampshire.

UConn faced two other teams in the field this season: 5-seed Minnesota and unseeded Penn State. The Huskies opened the campaign with a win and a tie against the Nittany Lions and were swept on the road by the Golden Gophers back in January.

This is UConn’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
