Coming into Tuesday night’s tilt with No. 12 UConn, Stonehill — owning a 1-12-0 record — knew it couldn’t compromise in one key area.

“One thing that we can control is our effort and our 1-on-1 battles, our compete level,” Stonehill coach David Berard said. “We came into the game saying we had to at least bring that to give ourselves a chance to win.”

The Huskies didn’t bring that same attitude. Despite being a program known for its relentless play and high motor, UConn came out flat and never really got the engine going. Playing their third game in five days at the end of a month-long stretch without a breather, the Huskies let fatigue get the best of them in a 3-3 tie with Stonehill.

“I don't think we took them lightly at all,” Cavanaugh said. “I just think we're not playing our best brand of hockey right now and this break is probably really good for us to get a little rest and regroup.”
