UConn's penalty kill holds strong to secure much-needed win over UMass Lowell
Plus: Kam Hendrickson shined in his third career start in goal for the Huskies.

As UConn tried to hold onto a 2-1 lead into the third period at UMass Lowell on Saturday, it didn’t make life easy on itself. The Huskies went to the penalty box three times in the final stanza, giving the hosts ample opportunity to find a tying goal.
To that point in the weekend, the penalty kill had struggled, allowing two goals in a loss on Friday night before giving up another on its first attempt on Saturday. But with the game on the line, the unit stepped up and shut the River Hawks’ power play out on all three chances and the Huskies walked out with a much-needed 5-1 victory.
“Our penalty kill was nails,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said.
