UConn men’s hockey picked up commitments from a pair of teammates on the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires: ‘06 forward Cole Davis and ‘08 defenseman Carter Hicks. The two both announced their decision on Friday.

Davis, a native of Sutton, Ontario, is listed at 5-10, 183 pounds with a left-handed shot who will join UConn next season. He’s been the driver of the Spitfires’ offense recently, putting up 40+ points in each of his two full seasons. Through 16 games on the current campaign, he has eight goals and six assists.

Davis is known as a relentless forward who possesses a rare combination of speed, physicality and grit. Davis is skilled — he has a top-six package in the OHL and plays on both special teams — but also has an edge that can get under opponents’ skin.

While Davis went undrafted in 2024, he’s attended development camps with the St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings in previous offseasons and also participated in rookie camp with the New Jersey Devils this past summer.

As for Hicks, the right-shot defenseman stands at 6-1, 165 pounds and is still a few years away from joining the Huskies. Last season, he put up three goals and 11 assists in 52 games while landing on the OHL All-Rookie Second Team.

A mobile defenseman with good range and skating ability, Hicks impresses with a high hockey IQ. He has high-end offensive instincts at the blue line for his age and can solve problems under pressure with the puck on his stick. He represented Canada on the international stage at the U17 World Hockey Challenge last season and could end up being an NHL Draft pick down the line.

Hicks hails from London, Ontario, where his parents billet a couple players for the OHL’s London Knights. A few members of the Knights watched the 2024 OHL Priority Selection draft with Hicks and promptly erupted when his name was called by Windsor in the second round, 24th overall.

With Davis and Hicks in the mix, the Huskies are beginning to forge a pipeline out of Ontario. Six of their current commitments play in the OHL, most of any junior league. Second is the USHL (five commitments) followed by the WHL (three), BCHL (three) and QMJHL (two).
