UConn picks up commitment from '09 defenseman Marshall Paul
The Greenville, South Carolina native visited Storrs this past weekend.
On Monday, UConn men’s hockey picked up a commitment from Marshall Paul, a 2009-born defenseman from Greenville, South Carolina. He currently plays at Avon Old Farms and will join the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders next season. Paul visited Storrs this past weekend.
Listed at 6-2, 201 pounds with a right-handed shot, he is regarded as a big, tough blue liner. He’s eligible for the 2027 NHL Draft as the Huskies’ youngest current commitment.
Once he officially joins the team — which is certainly a few years off — Paul will be the first UConn player from South Carolina during the program’s Hockey East era. He’ll also be the latest Avon Old Farms product to come through Storrs, joining Joe Odyniec, Tabor Heaslip and Adam Karashik.
The RoughRiders drafted Paul in the second round (30th overall) of the 2026 USHL Draft, then signed him to a development contract in August.
“Marshall is a passionate, committed player who has made great strides over the past few years," RoughRiders head coach and general manager Mark Carlson said in a release. "He makes a good first pass, plays a hard, reliable defensive game and provides strong leadership to his team. Our staff looks forward to helping Marshall develop his game to the highest level."
