UConn men’s hockey picked up a new commitment on Wednesday: ‘07 defenseman Charlie Morrison. A native of Miramichi, New Brunswick, he’s listed at 6-3, 198 pounds with a left-handed shot. Morrison currently plays for the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts, where he has two goals and four assists in 23 games this season. There’s no timeframe for his arrival in Storrs.

Morrison is regarded as an athletic defenseman with good size and a high ceiling. He was one of seven defenseman named to the CHL Prospects Team — an all-star squad of players from the QMJHL, OHL and WHL — for the CHL-USA Prospects Challenge in November.

As a 2007-born prospect, Morrison is eligible for the 2026 NHL Draft and projects to be a second or third round pick. On NHL Central Scouting’s midseason rankings, he came in at No. 29 among North American skaters.

With Morrison in the mix, the Huskies are building a strong pipeline on defense. They have commitments from Carl-Otto Magnusson (No. 181 among NA skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s mid-season rankings), Darels Uljanskis (played in 2026 World Juniors with Latvia), Shayne Gould (leads USHL defensemen with 34 points this season) and Morrison among the notables.

When Morrison eventually arrives on campus, he’ll be the first player in UConn’s Hockey East Era from New Brunswick.
