2025 didn’t get off to a great start for UConn men’s hockey. In their first game of the new year, the Huskies came out flat and found themselves in a 2-0 hole just three minutes in.

“You can't start games like that and expect to win all the time,” Mike Cavanaugh said postgame.

Yet UConn proved that it’s not impossible to do so in a 7-3 road win over the Harvard Crimson on Saturday night. As it turns out, scoring five times in the final stanza — the most the Huskies have ever scored in a single period since joining Hockey East — can help cover up earlier mistakes.

“We believed that we were the better team,” Joey Muldowney said afterwards.
