UConn has no one to blame but itself in third consecutive defeat

The Huskies can't expect to beat opponents until they stop beating themselves.

UConn men’s hockey is in a free-fall. The Huskies dropped their third straight — a 4-1 loss to Union on Friday night — in a game where numbers hardly tell the story.

UConn out-shot the hosts 37-22… but it was only 19-17 after two periods. The Huskies had an 18-5 edge in the third… but were outscored 3-1 in spite of it. They managed 80 attempts… but recorded just a single goal. UConn had seven power plays, including a long 5-on-3… but came up empty on all of them.

The Huskies have no shortage of problems — the inability to score and a lifeless power play are top of the list — but even if they figure those things out, it won’t matter. Right now, UConn can’t expect to beat opponents until it stops beating itself.
