UConn men's hockey prospect preview

While UConn men’s hockey won’t start its regular season for a couple more weeks, the program’s future players begin their respective seasons this weekend. The USHL kicked off on Thursday while the BCHL, OHL, QMJHL and WHL all open on Friday.

At the moment, the Huskies have 11 commitments across the aforementioned five leagues. The OHL leads the way with five players, the QMJHL has three while the BCHL, USHL and WHL each have one.

QMJHL

Shayne Gould — Defenseman — Moncton Wildcats

Height/weight: 5-9, 143 pounds
Hometown: Princeton, MA
Shoots: Left
2025-26 stats: 12-39—51 in 60 games with the Sioux City Musketeers (USHL)

While Gould was originally slated to join the Huskies this fall, he’ll now spend another year in juniors. Among defensemen, he led the USHL in points but had the fifth-worst +/- at -28. Gould should continue to produce in the offense-happy Q, but needs to improve his defense and strength.

Thomas Rousseau — Forward — Sherbrooke Phoenix

Height/weight: 5-10, 174 pounds
Hometown: St-Eustache, QC
Shoots: Right
2025-26 stats: 22-30—52 in 60 games with the Sherbrooke Phoenix

UConn’s most recent commitment, Rousseau will begin his third season in Sherbrooke and wear the “A” on his sweater. Last year, he finished second on the team with 52 points.

Alexei Vlasov — Forward — Victoriaville Tigres

Height/weight: 5-9, 179 pounds
Hometown: Chelyabinsk, Russia
Shoots: Right
2025-26 stats: 44-26—80 in 64 games with the Victoriaville Tigres
