Coming off the best season in program history, UConn men’s hockey earned its first-ever preseason ranking and landed at No. 10 in the USCHO Poll. The Huskies finished the 2025-26 campaign at No. 7 after falling in the Allentown Regional Final.
Defending national champions Western Michigan tops the polls while Boston University, Michigan State, Denver and Penn State round out the top five. Three other Hockey East schools made the top 10 — Boston College (No. 6), Maine (No. 7) and Providence (No. 9) — while UMass came in at No. 15, giving the league six teams in the preseason top 20.
Meanwhile, in-state rival Quinnipiac opened at No. 13 while Ohio State, who UConn will face in its second series of the year, slid in at No. 16. Elsewhere on the Huskies’ slate, Colorado College received the most votes of any team outside the top 20 while Northeastern, UMass Lowell and Harvard picked up a few tallies as well.
UConn earned its first national ranking during the 2020-21 season, appearing for one week at No. 20 before dropping out. The Huskies returned one year later, this time lasting for two weeks while also making the final poll. In 2022-23, UConn pushed in after the opening weekend and held on for the duration of the campaign. The Huskies only jumped in for one week the following year but last season, they forced their way in midway through January and rose as high as No. 7.
This is the sixth consecutive season that UConn has been ranked.
On the women’s side, the Huskies will open at No. 12 in the USCHO Poll. They came in one spot behind BU and three spots up from Northeastern.
