After a 5-0 loss to the No. 17 UNH Wildcats on Friday night at Toscano Family Ice Forum that featured a second third period meltdown in the past week, UConn head coach Mike Cavanaugh didn’t hold back on his team.
“We got thoroughly outplayed in the third. I can't remember the last time that something like that has happened. It's been a while,” he said. “We got thoroughly outplayed physically. Yeah, New Hampshire was way better in the third period than we were tonight.”
The Huskies were in it through two periods and they only trailed 1-0 because Andrew Lucas knocked a cross-ice pass into his own net. UConn could’ve played one strong period and pulled out a win — similar to Maine last Friday at the XL Center.
Instead, the Huskies self-destructed by allowing three goals in a span of 1:05.
