UConn lands commitment from '08 forward Thomas Rousseau

On Monday, UConn men’s hockey picked up a commitment from Thomas Rousseau, a 2008-born forward.

Listed at 5-10, 174 pounds with a right-handed shot, Rousseau is a native of Saint-Eustache, Quebec and plays for the QMJHL’s Sherbrooke Phoenix. This past year, he led the team with 22 goals and ranked second with 52 points in 60 regular-season games. During the 2024-25 campaign, he put up 40 points in 58 games to earn a spot on the AMJHL All-Rookie Team.

At the international level, Rousseau has represented Canada at the 2026 IIHF U18 World Championships this past May (alongside fellow UConn commit Carter Hicks) and at the 2025 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

Rousseau is a prototypical UConn player — a 200-foot player who excels on the forecheck and isn’t afraid to throw his body around, but also has the requisite skill to find the back of the net or set up his teammates. He’s also strong on the face-off dot.

Rousseau projects to arrive in Storrs next fall, though that’s always subject to change. If that happens, he’ll have five seasons of eligibility.
