UConn men’s hockey received a pair of forward commitments over the past week: Jack Torr and Nathan Hauad.

Torr is a native of Philadelphia who is listed at 6-2, 192 pounds with a right-handed shot. An ‘08 prospect, he started his career as a defenseman but converted to forward last spring. Torr in his first season with the USHL’s Fargo Force, where he’s played in seven contests but is yet to record a point.

As for Hauad, he hails from Chicago and is listed at 5-11, 170 pounds with a right-handed shot. Like Torr, Hauad is an ‘08 prospect who kicked off his juniors career with the USHL’s Des Moines Buccaneers this season, where he has two goals and an assist in eight games.

Odyniec down with mono

Freshman forward Joseph Odyniec will be out “for a little while” after coming down with mononucleosis, head coach Mike Cavanaugh revealed on his radio show on Monday. That leaves UConn with just two reserve skaters for the foreseeable future.

The Huskies have stuck with the same 12 forwards in the lineup through the first four games, though Huston Karpman has made a pair of appearances as the extra skater. UConn doesn’t have any depth remaining up top beyond that.

Odyniec, a 6-2, 201 pound power forward out of Wilton, Connecticut, had not yet played in a game this season. He spent last year in the BCHL with the Coquitlam Express, putting up 19 goals and 10 assists in 36 games.

Poll check

UConn men’s hockey moved up one spot in the USCHO Poll on Monday, landing at No. 11 after splitting with Ohio State. The Buckeyes rose from No. 16 to No. 14.

Meanwhile, UConn women’s hockey jumped three spots to No. 8 after sweeping Princeton over the weekend. Tia Chan earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors after tying a career-high with 48 saves in a 2-1 win on Friday followed by a 33-save shutout on Saturday.
