Jake Black enters transfer portal

UConn men’s hockey has its first non-senior departure of the offseason. Sophomore forward Jake Black has entered the transfer portal, a source confirmed. Across two seasons, he played in 35 games with the Huskies and collected three goals and three assists.

A native of Pomfret, Connecticut, Black never earned a secure spot in the lineup. As a sophomore, he appeared in 27 of 36 games — often as the extra skater.

While most UConn recruits play in either the BCHL or USHL, Black came through the lower-level NAHL. The coaching staff hoped his production (41-38—79 in 60 games) would translate to the collegiate level but it never happened — at least not with the Huskies.

Black is the fourth confirmed departure for UConn this season, joining Jake Flynn, Andrew Lucas and Harrison Rees, who exhausted their eligibility. Hudson Schandor and John Spetz are still deciding whether to return for a fifth season while Matthew Wood, Chase Bradley, Ethan Haider and Arsenii Sergeev could be potential NHL signees.

On the flip side, the Huskies have already made an addition through the transfer portal: Defensemen Nick Carabin out of Princeton.
