UConn comes up just short in goaltending duel

The Huskies pushed their former goaltender to his limit but Penn State came out on top.

UConn men’s hockey came up just short of its first Frozen Four appearance, falling to Penn State in overtime in what proved to be a battle of the goaltenders. The two net-minders each did all they could to help their team advance.

The Huskies’ Callum Tung made 38 saves in a losing effort while the Nittany Lions’ Arsenii Sergeev, who transferred to State College from Storrs over the summer, had 42 stops on his ledger. Each made save after save at critical points to keep their team in it.

“Arsenii played very well tonight. I will say that. He played great. So my hat's off to him,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said. “But I thought our guy was equally as good.”
