UConn beats the odds to pull out unlikely victory over UMass Lowell

The Huskies hadn't won a game when trailing after two periods in over four seasons and hadn't scored on the power play in 14 consecutive tries -- until Friday night.

Entering Friday night’s contest at UMass Lowell, UConn men’s hockey hadn’t won a game when trailing after two periods since Feb. 21, 2020. Over the last four seasons, the Huskies were 0-23-3 when down through 40 minutes.

Then through 58:30 in the game, UConn hadn’t found the back of the net and needed its power play unit — which was 1-30 on the year to that point — to come through to tie the game.

Everything pointed to the Huskies returning home with yet another frustrating loss in which it played well, generated plenty of chances and still lost. Instead, UConn pulled out a 2-1 overtime victory over the River Hawks thanks to a game-tying power play goal from Chase Bradley and the winner courtesy of Andrew Lucas.

“That one feels good,” Hudson Schandor said postgame. “We’ve had some tough luck, to say the least, in these first couple of games. So to find the late one for us and then find one in overtime feels really good. I'm really proud of the guys in the group.”
