UConn men’s hockey earned the 3-seed in the 2025 Hockey East Tournament, its best finish ever in the league. The Huskies ended up with 41 points from their 24 games in conference play, two behind second-place UMass and two ahead of fourth-place Boston College.
Now, UConn will have to wait to see who it faces in the quarterfinals on Saturday at Toscano Family Ice Forum. Of the six teams set to play in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday, the highest seed left will travel to Storrs. If chalk holds, that’ll be 6-seed Boston University.
The Huskies had a chance to finish in second but suffered an all-too-familiar loss on Saturday night at Providence. On paper, UConn checked a lot of boxes. The Huskies outshot the hosts 38-30. They won the special teams battle. They limited the high-powered Friars to two non-empty net goals.
But once again, UConn struggled to score in a 3-1 defeat. The Huskies have now been held to a single tally in three of their previous five games. Over the last two weekends, they’re shooting just 5.4 percent — nine goals on 166 shots. During that span, UConn has gone 1-2-1.
Despite that, head coach Mike Cavanaugh took an optimistic view of the loss.
