UConn combines greasy play with creativity in offensive outburst at Northeastern

As long as they stuck to their game plan, the Huskies knew they could "take it" to Northeastern on Saturday night.

As UConn lit up Northeastern 7-1 at Matthews Arena on Saturday night — tying a season-high in goals scored while matching their largest margin of victory since joining Hockey East in the process — much of that production came from unlikely sources: Defenseman.

The Huskies’ blue liners accounted for three goals after putting up just six total in the first 32 contests. Three of those belonged to a single player, Trey Scott, too. What made the sudden outburst even more strange is that all the goals came around the crease instead of a defenseman’s typical spot out at the perimeter.

On a night that nearly a quarter of UConn’s shots found the back of the net, offense came from all over.

“I don't know, sometimes the puck goes in,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said postgame.
