UConn men’s hockey dipped into the transfer portal and added some firepower up top. On Saturday, the Huskies landed a commitment from forward Jeremy Loranger, a source told The UConn Hockey Hub. As a freshman at Omaha, he put up seven goals and 12 assists in 28 games last season.
Listed at 5-9, 161 pounds with a right-handed shot, Loranger was taken in the seventh round (198th overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2025 NHL Draft. He makes up for his lack of size with speed and skill while also featuring a good shot.
“I’m not going to be denied,” Loranger told NHL.com. “I’m a small player and I know I’m going to work harder than everyone else. That’s the mind-set. That’s what I need to do. In a battle with a 6-6 (defenseman), you need to be stronger and quicker than those guys to beat them. I like receiving hits and just going in the crease and receiving cross checks. And giving one, too.”
The Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native tore up the BCHL in his lone season of junior hockey, recording a staggering 105 points (40 goals, 65 assists) in 54 games to earn the league’s Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year awards. He became the first 100-point scorer in the BCHL since Bradly and Josh Nadeau in 2022-23.
Loranger is younger than a typical sophomore in college hockey — he doesn’t turn 19 until June. UConn will bank on his production carrying over from the NCHC and hope he can take a step forward in his second collegiate season.
