On Thursday, UConn’s Tia Chan was named 2026 National Goaltender of the Year by the Hockey Commissioners Association. Not only is she the first net-minder in program history to win the award, she’s the first Husky ever to win a national honor.
Chan finished second in the country in save percentage (.951), wins (27) and minutes played (2252:25), third in saves (1,122), fourth in goals against average (1.54) and ninth in shutouts (five). She led Hockey East in all those categories and set single-season program records in saves and wins, while matching another for save percentage.
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Chan backstopped UConn to its second Hockey East Tournament championship, making 57 saves in a 2-1 double overtime victory over Northeastern en route to MVP honors. She then helped the Huskies to their first NCAA Tournament win with a 41-save effort against Princeton.
Chan first arrived in Storrs way back in 2020-21, but sat out the following season to participate in the 2022 Beijing Olympics with Team China. In 2023-24, she led UConn to Hockey East regular season and tournament titles along with its first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Chan won Hockey East Goaltender of the Year in 2025 and 2026, becoming the first Husky to win the award multiple times.
