Schedule update: UConn to play Northeastern this weekend; Providence on Jan. 13
The Huskies will play yet another ranked opponent
UConn men’s hockey will play a two-game home-and-home series against the No. 14 Northeastern Huskies this weekend, Mike Cavanaugh confirmed on his Coach’s Show. The first game will be at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Freitas Ice Forum followed by UConn’s return trip to Matthews Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Huskies will also travel to face Providence on Wednesday, Dec. 13, though Cavanaugh was unsure of the time. That will likely complete the season series with the Friars. UConn beat Providence 2-0 back on Dec. 28.
Hockey East is expected to announce the changes on Tuesday.
The Huskies were originally scheduled against UMass this weekend but since the two teams have already played three, it made more sense to give both teams opponents they haven’t faced yet.
UConn is still slated to play Northeastern on Jan. 29-30, though there’s a good chance that weekend will be used either to make up one of Connecticut’s previously postponed series (Maine, Vermont) or to add an opponent that it hasn’t faced yet.
Northeastern is 3-3-2 on the year, though all but two of its points have come against Merrimack and Vermont — two of the worst teams in the conference. Last weekend, the Boston-based Huskies were swept by No. 9 UMass.
