Boston College has already clinched the regular season crown, Boston College is locked into No. 2 while Maine and UMass have secured an opening-round bye. Providence and New Hampshire are battling for the last spot in the quarterfinals. Merrimack and UMass Lowell will bring up the rear and Northeastern will host an opening round game, but there’s still plenty to be determined.

UConn can only finish eighth or ninth, though the it might need some help from Boston University to do so. The Huskies can’t pass Northeastern, which is three points ahead, for seventh since it can finish with a winning percentage in regulation games no lower than .400. Even with a regulation win over Vermont on Thursday, UConn will be at .380.

The winner between the Huskies and Catamounts on Thursday, including a shootout, would own the tiebreaker since the teams already split a series in Burlington in November.

UConn finishes eighth if…

UConn wins in regulation against Vermont

OR

UConn wins in overtime or a shootout against Vermont AND Vermont secures two points or less against Boston University

The Huskies would host Vermont in an opening round game on March 13

UConn finishes ninth if…

UConn wins in overtime or a shootout against Vermont AND Vermont beats Boston University in regulation

OR

UConn loses in overtime or a shootout against Vermont AND Vermont does not lose in regulation to Boston University

OR

UConn loses in regulation against Vermont

The Huskies would travel to New Hampshire, Northeastern or Vermont in an Opening Round game on March 13
