Once again, UConn piles up shots but can't find the back of the net

"I don't have any answers right now," Mike Cavanaugh said after a 46-shot night with zero goals.

Mike Cavanaugh has been the head coach at UConn for 11 seasons and prior to that, he spent 21 seasons as an assistant coach. In all those years, he can’t remember another time that one of his teams went through a stretch like the Huskies’ last six games.

On Saturday, they fell to UMass Lowell 1-0 despite putting 46 shots on goal. Over the weekend, UConn put 88 shots on target and managed just two goals. At Union, the Huskies needed a 69-shot effort to find the back of the net because the night before, they scored just once on a 37-shot performance.

The week prior, UConn scored a single goal in a home-and-home with Holy Cross. Over the last four games, the Huskies have averaged 48.5 shots and just 2.0 goals per game — or 24.3 shots per goal.

“I don't have any answers right now,” Cavanaugh said postgame. “I'm very happy with the way our team is playing. I don't think anybody who's watched us over the seven games can say that our compete, our effort, and time of possession — we're playing the game the right way. Unfortunately right now, for some reason, we're having trouble scoring goals.”
