Notebook: UConn's schedule beginning to fill out, NHL development camps underway
Catching up on all that's happened with the Huskies to this point in the summer.
UConn’s 2026-27 schedule is beginning to fill out as other teams release their respective slates.
The Huskies will open the season with Penn State as part of the Ice Breaker Tournament on Friday, Oct. 9, which also means they’ll take on Bowling Green the following day. Both contests will be at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs.
The following weekend, Colorado College comes to town on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17 to complete the home-and-home series that began last season.
UConn opens Hockey East play with BU on Oct. 23-24. The Huskies will make it five straight at home to open the season on Friday before traveling to Agganis Arena for their first road game on Saturday. The two teams played on this same weekend last season.
On Nov. 20-21, UConn will battle UNH in a home-and-home with Saturday’s contest coming in Durham. The Huskies will also face the Wildcats in Connecticut on Saturday, Mar. 6.
UConn will close out the first half with a trip to Ohio State on Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12. That will be the latest the Huskies have ever gone into the winter break under Mike Cavanaugh.
In the second half, UConn travels to UMass on Thursday, Feb. 25 — the first date that isn’t on a Friday or Saturday at the moment — before hosting the Minutemen on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Investors see ANOTHER return from Masterworks (!!!!)

It’s not from stocks, private equity, or real estate… it’s from contemporary and post war art. Crazy, right?
With Masterworks, you don’t need to be a BILLIONAIRE to invest in multi-million dollar art anymore.
Historically, the segment overall has had attractive appreciation and low correlation to stocks.*
Masterworks targets works featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso, identifying what they believe to have significant long-term appreciation potential, not just at the artist level but at the level of individual artworks.
As one of the largest players in the art market, with $1.3 billion invested over 500 artworks, they pass critical advantages through to their 70,000+ members to add art to their portfolios strategically.

NHL development camps underway
With the NHL Draft completed, the league will now turn its attention to its annual development camps. So far, nine current and former UConn players are participating with six different teams.
Defenseman Anthony Allain-Samaké (2025 sixth round) and forward Alexandre Blais (2024 fourth round), both rising sophomores, are at the Anaheim Ducks’ camp, though it won’t feature any traditional practices or scrimmages. The work will largely come off the ice.
Meanwhile, sophomore defenseman Brendan Dunphy (2025 sixth round) and recently departed goaltender Tyler Muszelik (signed an entry-level contract in May) are suiting up with the Florida Panthers.
Incoming freshman defenseman Charlie Morrison (2026 third round) will skate with the New York Rangers alongside former goalie Callum Tung (signed entry-level contract in 2025).
New transfer forward Jeremy Loranger (2025 seventh round) is in Columbus with the Blue Jackets while freshman forward Cole Davis (undrafted) will join up with the Colorado Avalanche. Sophomore forward Carlin Dezainde (undrafted) received an invite from the Tampa Bay Lightning as well.
There are three notable absences from development camp rosters: Senior forward Joey Muldowney (2022 sixth round) isn’t with the San Jose Sharks, freshman goalie Veeti Louhivaara (2024 fifth round) is absent from the New Jersey Devils’ activities while Will McIsaac (2024 fifth round) wasn’t listed with the St. Louis Blues.
The only other draft pick on UConn’s roster not already mentioned is freshman forward Lirim Amidovski, who went to the Minnesota Wild in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL Draft. The Wild have not yet released a roster for their development camp.
NHL updates
The New York Islanders non-tendered Marc Gatcomb, making him an unrestricted free agent. He spent two years with the organization, totaling 11 goals and five assists in 88 games. According to the New York Post, “the door isn’t closed” on a potential reunion between the Islanders and Gatcomb.
Meanwhile, Chase Bradley was dealt by the Colorado Avalanche to the Nashville Predators alongside Jack Drury and the 2029 third round pick for Fedor Svechkov and Zachary Le’Heureux. The Predators have extended a qualifying offer to Bradley.
Other notes
UConn had two commitments depart. Forward Elias Straume Vatne signed in his native Norway with the Stavanger Oilers while defenseman Darels Uljanskis flipped to St. Cloud State.
As for Kevin Fitzgerald, it doesn’t appear that he’s found a new home after entering the transfer portal earlier in the offseason.
In non-UConn news, one-time commitment and former UVM defenseman Jax Wismer is heading to Boston University via the portal. Terriers associate head coach Joe Pereira recruited him to the Huskies back in the day.
