Mike Murtagh didn’t play well in UConn’s 1-1 tie with Harvard on Friday night — and Mike Cavanaugh made sure he knew it. The head coach sat down with the sophomore on Saturday to discuss the performance, challenging him to be better.

Later that day, Murtagh responded by scoring two goals, including the game-winner, in the Huskies’ 5-1 win over Merrimack.

“I loved his bounce back today,” Cavanaugh said. “It showed a lot of character.”

“I love that from him. I want him to be hard on me. I think it makes me a better player,” Murtagh said. “Moving forward, I think it'd be good to just have that relationship with him.”
