UConn men’s hockey opens the regular season on Saturday with an in-state matchup with the Sacred Heart Pioneers at 4:05 p.m. at the XL Center.

UConn’s lines

Notes:

  • Nick Capone (upper body injury) and Ryan Keane (hip labrum surgery) are both out. Aidan Metcalfe, Gavin Puskar, John Wojciechowski and Jake Veilleux are all healthy scratches.

  • Cassidy Bowes, Chase Bradley and Sasha Teleguine take the three undecided spots in the lineup.

  • The defensive pairings are balanced with one offensive-minded player matched with a defensive-minded player.

  • The Teleguine-Schandor-Tverberg line is going to fly up and down the ice.

  • Before last season, Carter Turnbull was linemates with Vladislav Firstov and Artem Shlaine — "just a Canadian boy and some Russians," as Turnbull put it. This year, it’s just a Massachusetts boy and some Russians with Gatcomb on the Firstov-Shlaine line.
