Joey Muldowney's hat trick propels him into UConn history

The sophomore is entering territory that only Tage Thompson has ever been before.

During the recruiting process, Joey Muldowney didn’t receive much interest from Hockey East. In fact, he wasn’t getting much interest from anyone.

So when UConn entered the picture, he didn’t have to think about it too much.

“It was pretty easy decision, to be honest. I wasn't really talking to too many schools during my recruitment process and [UConn] was one of the only Hockey East schools that was really interested,” Muldowney explained. “I just knew that for my development, I just figured playing against these players in this league and coming to a school like this, it was just a no brainer for me.”

Now Muldowney is climbing the Huskies’ record books. On Wednesday, he notched his second hat trick of the season in UConn’s 5-2 win over Alaska Anchorage after putting up a four-goal effort at Maine last month. The sophomore started with a shorthander, added one on the power play and finished it off with an empty-netter.
