Jake Percival reverses curse, records first career hat trick in UConn's 4-2 win

The senior hadn't scored in his last 27 games before netting three on Friday night.

Coming into Friday night, Jake Percival had yet to score through UConn’s first 10 games. Despite putting 23 shots on net in that span — fifth-most on the team — he couldn’t find the back of the net. Those weren’t empty chances, either. Percival had gotten breakaways, odd-man rushes, looks on the doorstep — grade-A chances of every kind.

The puck just wouldn’t go in.

“I thought it was cursed for a little bit,” Percival said.

Against Northeastern, his luck finally turned. Percival broke through with his first goal of the year late in the second period, added a second midway through the third and then capped off the 4-2 win with an empty-netter to secure the first hat trick of his collegiate career.
