As the final minutes wound down in UConn’s 6-1 win over Dartmouth on Saturday, Mike Cavanaugh took a second on the bench to soak in the moment before the final buzzer sounded.
“I felt like Geno tonight with a 6-1 lead when he’s there and he's got a win in hand late in the game,” the coach said. “It's a nice feeling. It doesn't happen often in our league.”
The victory proved to be everything the Huskies needed. They scored the opening goal for the first time since Oct. 21 at Union. They dominated wire-to-wire and actually had the goals to show for it with a season-high six after being shutout for the third time at home in their previous contest. They also secured their first win at either the XL Center or Toscano Family Ice Forum this season.
“It's a great win going into our last weekend of the first half,” Cavanaugh said.
