Hudson Schandor caps senior night with "high-end performance" – and some more history

When Hudson Schandor’s senior season ended last March, he didn’t know what the future held. UConn, coming off its most disappointing campaign under head coach Mike Cavanaugh, was in the midst of an exodus of talent. Schandor, meanwhile, had just completed a traditional four-year college career.
It would’ve been a natural endpoint.
“There was a period of uncertainty for everyone,” Schandor said.
Then as the dust started to settle, he sat down with Cavanaugh a couple weeks after the season and came to realization: He wasn’t ready to leave.
“I didn't want to go out after last year, the way that it ended,” Schandor explained. “I put in too much time into this place to have it just end the way it did.”
Now back in his fifth year with the Huskies, Schandor has been the catalyst in an historic campaign for both the team and himself. UConn is putting together its best season ever as it’s set to make the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Individually, he’s become the program’s Hockey East Era career leader in both points and assists.
On Friday — senior night, naturally — Schandor added to that list. With a pair of helpers, he set a new high water mark for single-season assists in the Huskies’ Hockey East Era with 25. He ultimately finished with three points in a 5-2 win over Northeastern.
“We got a really high-end performance out of Hudson tonight,” Cavanaugh gushed. “He just does all the little things.”
