Former UConn interim coach David Berard not surprised by program's success
Not many people can appreciate the progress made by the Huskies over the last decade quite like Berard.

For the first time ever, UConn’s current team went up against one of its former head coaches. On Tuesday, Mike Cavanaugh and the Huskies battled Stonehill, led by David Berard — the program’s interim bench boss in 2012-13. Perhaps fittingly, they played to a 3-3 tie at PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford.
When Berard was in charge, UConn still played at Freitas Ice Forum as members of Atlantic Hockey and weren’t fully funded with scholarships. Now, the program has moved into the state-of-the-art Toscano Family Ice Forum (while its old rink is now a volleyball facility), the Huskies are one of the top teams in Hockey East and they’re coming off the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Not many can appreciate that progress quite like Berard.
