Filip Sitar enters transfer portal
The forward finished with three points as a freshman but figured to be a lineup regular moving forward.

UConn men’s hockey suffered a surprise departure with rising sophomore forward Filip Sitar entering the transfer portal. While he’s the fourth Husky to head to another school, the Ljubljana, Slovenia native is the first who was a regular in the lineup.
Originally committed to Northern Michigan, Sitar flipped followed assistant coach Nick Peruzzi to UConn. He missed the first seven games due to a suspension after playing 11 games in the professional Swedish Hockey League but played in 31 of the remaining 32 contests.
Sitar finished just three points. His two assists came in back-to-back games in November while his lone goal was the winner in the CT Ice final against Sacred Heart. Despite the limited production, the Huskies were high on his potential.
“For most Europeans, they play over here for a year before they come to college so they get somewhat used to the North American culture. He's one of the few that came straight,” head coach Mike Cavanaugh said in late January. “It probably took him a little longer to get acclimated to North American style hockey and the rinks are a lot bigger over in Europe. But I really like the way he's progressing.”
Now, Sitar will depart for a larger role elsewhere. He joins defensemen Jack Pascucci (committed to Canisius) and Bauer Swift (Hobart College) along with goaltender Tommy Heaney in the portal.
The Huskies were already set to bring in Carlin Dezainde and Joe Odyniec as freshman forwards but will now need to make two more additions to fill out the position group.
