Breaking: UConn to add top 2021 signee Ryan Tverberg after Christmas break
The Huskies will also be without their two Russian players due to World Juniors.
UConn men’s hockey is getting a big midseason boost: Ryan Tverberg, one of the Huskies’ top 2021 commits, will join the team after the Christmas break, according to a source.
Tverberg was expected to play in the BCHL this season, but the league delayed its start date until at least Dec. 8. UConn’s coaching staff decided they’d rather bring him in and get him acclimated to the program. They believe he can contribute this year, which will put him in a position to have a breakout “real” freshman season in 2021-22.
And since the NCAA granted all winter athletes an extra year of eligibility this year, Tverberg will still have four years left to play at the end of this bizarre season.
Ryan Tverberg is a 5-11 forward from Richmond Hill, Ontario. He is playing with Alberni Valley (BCHL) this season and last year with the Toronto Jr. Canadians he 51 points in 47 gms. Last month, he was drafted in the 7th Rd by the @MapleLeafs
Welcome to the 🏒🚌 Ryan
