Arsenii Sergeev to start in goal for UConn in quarterfinals

The Huskies go with the high-upside option in goal for the playoffs.

UConn men’s hockey will start Arsenii Sergeev in goal for the Hockey East Quarterfinals against UMass Lowell on Saturday. The freshman gets the nod over sophomore Logan Terness.

Sergeev has started 17 games this season and owns a 2.64 GAA and a .913 save percentage with an 11-5-1 record. Terness also started 17 games with a .913 save percentage, but has a 2.53 GAA.

While the two have split games most of the season, UConn turned to Sergeev for both games in the CT Ice Tournament. The freshman is ultra athletic and can make jaw-dropping saves, but also struggles with soft goals and positioning at times. Still, Sergeev is a high-upside option who can steal the Huskies a game if needed.

In the other net, Gustavs Davis Grigals will start for UMass Lowell.
